Meet the Crew

My husband and I have quite the crew... 2 kids (ages 6 and 1), 2 dogs, 1 snake, several gold fish, numerous barn cats, 2 horses, 3 ponies, and two mini donkeys.  We started with just the dogs, 1 horse and 1 mini donk but I can't seem to stop bringing home animals in need... especially the equine variety.  Here they are with a little bit of their story...

This is Tarra.  She is a morgan cross and our latest addition.  I found her at a local farm auction in November "07.  I wasn't going to buy a horse but I happened to be standing next to the high bidder when he told another fellow he could get more for her because she'd weigh more.  She is in foal to a morgan stud for June of '08.  I couldn't let her go to the killers so now she is one of ours.  The foal is here!  Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the new baby!

This is Moose.  He's an awsome grulla appaloosa I bought as a trail horse last fall.  He stands 16hh... quite the big boy.  He was a bit underweight when I got him because his owner couldn't afford to feed him.  His weight is coming along nicely and I fully anticipate many more trail rides as soon as spring gets here.

This is is Scooby.  He's a pony I got out of the kill pens at a local horse auction.  I could see no reason for him to be there so I brought him home.  He's around the age of 2 and untrained.  I believe his previous owners did not do much work with him.  He's got a great personality and is now halter broke and ready to further his training.  Scooby sold!  Thanks Pamela!  Enjoy your new pony!

This is Rosy.  She is our mini jenny.   We bought her in hopes of having baby mini dokeys running around some day.  Other than her feet needing some work she was in good shape.  It took her a little while to fit in with the herd but now is doing great.  She has a different kind of donkey honk (sounds like a out of tune horn) but at least we can always tell which donkey is braying.

This is Rocky.  We have had him the longest of all the horses.  We bought him as a companion for a horse and the auction said he was a gelding.  Boy, were we surprisd when he dropped.  He was also at least a year younger than the auctioneer thought.  Since we had been thinking of breeding a couple mini donks anyway we bought him a jenny (above) and hope to have a little donk running around next spring.

This is Skip.  He's a 12 yr old Amish ride and drive pony I picked up the same day I bought Scooby.  My son wanted to learn to ride and have a pony of his own.  Skip has worked out great... I think my son could do a tap dance on Skip's back and Skip wouldn't care.  His one fault is not wanting to go faster than a walk.

This is Little Red.  She is a sweet little pony that needs a new home.  I got her for my son thinking she would be a better learning pony than Skip since she will actually listen to cues.  However, as children do, my son has already bonded with Skip so Little Red is on the Horses for Sale  page.   Don't let her age fool you... she's a great begining pony.

This is our dog Poo.  She's a Chow Chow.  My husband and I got her when we were first married... 8 yrs ago.  I was skeptical at first because of their reputation but I have to admit she has been a wonderful dog.  She is great with the kids and even does well with outsiders.  She has been trained to sit, etc but will only follow instructions if she decides to... much like our donkeys.  The black dog that just had to stick her nose in the picture is Sunny.  She's coming up next.

.

.                                                                                                                               This is Sunny.  She's a lab mix we got from the local pound last fall.  She's around 1 yrs old and full of energy.  We are still in the training stage but she catches on quick.  She is a people pleaser...  thank goodness!  Since my husband likes Chows, I said OK as long as we also have one pound puppy.  They are like night and day personality wise.  It makes for an interesting household.

This is Snoopy.  She's a California King Snake and currently about 5ft long.  My husband gave her to me for our 1st anniversary.  I use her alot for my wildlife talks I give at a local campground I manage.  You couldn't ask for an easier keeper... feed once a week, make sure she has water, clean the cage every so often, and keep it the right temp...   much easier than the equine!

The newest addition!  Born 5/9/08... a bit of a surprise birth since the mare wasn't supposed to be due until June.  It's a filly!  Her name is Blaze because it is the first thing we noticed about her.
